In the era of globalization and the rapid development of the Internet, the spatial pattern and behavioral logic of tourism activities have undergone drastic changes. From the standpoint of geographical attributes of tourism economic activities, this paper comprehensively reviewed the geographical studies regarding the tourism activities with the focus on the explorations conducted by academia in tourism geography, and commented on the theoretical foundations and logic of the key issues. The research found the current research of tourism economic geography is still in a relatively loose stage with many ambiguities and lacking a systematic theoretical framework; it is also overly dependent on the theories of evolutionary economic geography and leaves the boundary and research question of tourism geography not clarified. Based on these findings and informed by the classic theory of tourism system, this article proposes three core basic theoretical issues of tourism economic geography: (1) The spatial organization and structure of tourism activities under the influence of the spatial stickiness; (2) The new human-space relations generated by the spatial diffusion mechanism of tourism activities; (3) The new developmental mechanism of the evolution of tourist destinations based on the weak spatial organization of production. The attempts of this research have actively promoted the theoretical construction of tourism geography, enhanced the explanatory power and applicability of tourism geography theory, and attracted mainstream economic geographical scholars’ attention to tourism economic geography.

The hosting of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics has brought important historical opportunities for the high-quality development of China’s ice and snow economy in the cold region. “Ice and snow economy in the cold region” has gradually become an important starting point to promote regional coordinated development in the new era. In this paper, the scientific connotation and industrial characteristics of the cold snow and ice economy in China are comprehensively analyzed by means of summary and literature review, and the evolution and development path of the cold snow and ice economy in China are analyzed. According to the research, ice and snow economy in the cold region is a series of economic activities based on the development and utilization of ice and snow resources in the cold region, which is characterized by strong regional resource space, distinct seasonal characteristics, fuzzy industrial boundary, high industrial correlation, strong industrial driving force, and diversified product function forms. After three stages of exploration, start-up and rapid development, China’s ice and snow economy has gradually entered a new stage of mature development. Combined with the background of social and economic development in the new era, the high-quality development of China’s cold snow and ice economy should make breakthroughs in two major aspects: local regional scale and national scale. This study attempts to provide a reference for the academic community and industry to scientifically understand ice and snow economy and promote the high-quality development of ice and snow economy in the cold region.

With the rapid development of Web2.0 technology and social media, data generated via social media has been widely used in tourism research. This paper evaluates the application of social media data in Western tourism research based on the literature in the core collection database of Web of Science. The results show that the application of social media data in tourism research has experienced two stages from initial exploration to rapid development. The main sources of data are from online social media, supplemented by traditional mass media. The application of social media data mainly focuses on five areas: the image and brand characteristics of tourist destinations, the role of media in crisis events, tourist behavior footprint and tourist flow, tourist demand/motivation/preference, tourist experience and emotion analysis. Existing studies have limitations in the application of media data, such as the generalizability of conclusions, the representativeness of social media data sources, and the reliability and validity of media data. It is suggested that future research should put emphasis on construction of tourism related database and the improvement of analytical methods regarding big data generated via tourism social media.

In recent years, the construction of tourism resorts has been the key area for the transformation and upgrade of tourism consumption. It is of great significance to scientifically understand the spatial distribution characteristics and influencing factors of national tourism resorts for optimizing the layout of China’s tourism industry, promoting the high-quality development of tourism resorts and building world-class resorts. Adopting the data of 45 national tourism resorts in China from 2015-2020, this paper analyzed the spatio-temporal distribution characteristics and influencing factors of national tourism resorts by ArcGIS. The research results show: (1) National tourism resorts are still in the developing stage, and display a spatial distribution pattern that more of them are located in the eastern and southern regions whilst less are in the western and northern regions of the country. (2) An agglomeration pattern of the national tourism resorts is emerging, which features as “dispersed generally and concentrated specifically”, showing a “single-core pattern” dominated by Zhejiang and Jiangsu. (3) The endowment of resources, government policy, market development, holiday system, and mega sport events are the main influencing factors of the spatial distribution of national tourism resorts. Accordingly, concrete measures are put forward in order to improve the spatial distribution and high-quality development of national tourism resorts. Finally, some future research areas related to the high-quality development of tourism resorts in China are proposed.

In order to achieve the high-quality development of transportation and tourism integration in China in the context of building national strength in transportation, it is of great significance to recognize the development context and future trend of the research on the integration of transportation and tourism in China, and to promote the innovation of theories and methods. Results show that: the number of papers on transport and tourism integration is increasing. Themes become further diversified and deepened and show the characteristics of an increasing intersection of multi-disciplines. The domestic research on the integration of transportation and travel shows three stages: the initial exploration stage from 1998 to 2006, the rapid development stage from 2007 to 2014, and the prosperity and development stage from 2015 to 2021. The research topics are mainly related to: (1) the layout and accessibility evaluation of tourism facilities; (2) the interaction between air transport and tourism development; (3) the reconstruction of the spatial pattern of high-speed railway and regional tourism; (4) the analysis of tourism flow and tourists' travel behavior; (5) the travel characteristics of tourism traffic under the disturbance of epidemic situation; (6) the integration of development path and product design. Based on the development trend of the discipline and the changes of the tourism market, the future research on the integration of transportation and tourism should focus on: (1) the theoretical innovation of the research on the integration of high-quality collaborative development; (2) the research on the cross-integration of traffic and tourism information technology; (3) the research on the adaptation of comprehensive three-dimensional traffic network oriented to the integration of transportation and tourism; (4) the reconstruction of high-speed traffic to tourism regional system; (5) the research on the patterns of tourists' travel behavior supported by big data; (6) evaluation of environmental effects of tourism traffic resources; (7) theory and practice of transport and tourism integration product design.

Sense of place is a frontier issue and key field of tourism research in the process of adjusting the relationship between man and land. This paper uses CiteSpace to systematically sort out the relevant literature of domestic tourism sense of place, in order to clarify the research context of this topic and provide suggestions for future research. The results show that: (1) The research on tourism sense of place started late in China. The number of papers on this topic in tourism research shows an "upward-stable" trend. Research generally falls into three stages: theory introduction stage (2007-2010), topic expansion stage (2011-2015), and indigenous innovation stage (2016-2020). (2) The research vision and content of tourism sense of place are becoming more diverse and richer. The research hot spots of tourism sense of place focus on the theoretical discussion, the characteristics of sense of place for different subjects, the construction of sense of place of different types of tourist destinations, and the practical value of sense of place. (3) The research on domestic tourism sense of place is carried out from three aspects: body, subject, and object. Keyword co-occurrence, high frequency, and high centrality tourism are significant in sense of place theory, tourists and residents' sense of place construction, action mechanism of sense of place on behavior, and practical significance of sense of place. At the same time, it presents a path from theory introduction to theoretical construction, from topic concentration to diversified visions, from academic attention to diversified attention. At present, the research on tourism sense of place focuses on the changes of behavior and emotion caused by the evolution of man-land relationship in the new era. (4) In the future, the research on tourism sense of place should take into consideration of China's national conditions and strategies in the new era, pay attention to the theoretical innovation of tourism sense of place research, expand the scope and content of tourism sense of place research, strengthen the integration of tourism sense of place research methods, expand the regional representation of tourism sense of place research, and build tourism sense of place research theories and method system reflecting China's unique characteristics.

Tourism environmental carrying capacity is an important theoretical basis and reference standard to measure the sustainable development of tourism destination. This paper selected 492 Chinese and foreign literatures collected from the Core Collection of Web of Science (WOS) and the database of China National Knowledge Network (CNKI) as samples to systematically review and compare the development process, stage characteristics and hotspot evolution of tourism environmental carrying capacity research in recent 30 years, based on visual analysis by Citespace. The results showed that the research achievements of tourism environmental carrying capacity in China and abroad showed an increasing trend from 1992 to 2020. Although the relevant foreign research started earlier, they all experienced three stages with different time spans in the research period. When China's research entered into the exploration stage of constructing a theoretical system of sustainable tourism development under the constraints of carrying capacity, foreign scholars shifted from theoretical construction to research reflection and practical application. After China's research entered the expansion stage, the research achievements increased rapidly, and initially completed the reference and transformation application of relevant foreign theories and methods. However, at this stage, the growth rate of the research achievements of foreign scholars slowed down significantly, and the research focus shifted to drawing lessons from the theories and methods of oceanography, management, psychology and other disciplines to carry out interdisciplinary research. In the third stage, the theories and methods of foreign research were constantly systematized under the impetus of new application practice and entered the transformation of new application. During the same period, the theoretical research and practical application of Chinese scholars continued to enrich, the "Chinese characteristics" of the research and practice of tourism environmental carrying caity became increasingly prominent, and the international research results and influence in the Chinese context continued to improve. Under the background of the concept of human-nature community and the construction of ecological civilization, the research of tourism environmental carrying capacity is still a key issue in tourism geography. In the future, Chinese scholars should pay more attention to theoretical system construction, method integration innovation, spatio-temporal scale expansion and interdisciplinary research, so as to provide theoretical and decision-making reference for the sustainable capacity and high-quality development of tourism destinations in the new era.
